History

Obuasi - Asonkore is in Obuasi Municipal Assembly, is a community with about five thousand (5,000) inhabitants. The major occupation is farming and most farmers practice the peasant farming system and children are taken to farm right from infancy. Parents in the neighborhood feel secure throwing their precious wards to help in the farms instead of sending them to school. This has however triggered the ever raging vision of one of the industrious son of the community, to unleash all resources within and around to help salvage the community in some aspect. A formal school setup became the topmost priority of all the needs. Hence, Artic Basic School (Artic International School) was born and thereby producing valuable human resources that will eventually brighten the future of the community.

Basic School:

Artic Basic School (ABS) comprises Daycare, Primary and Junior High School and was established on 21st March, 2005 with only eight (8) pupils, two (2) teachers, one in-house chef and a driver in a small building of four (4) Bed-room apartments. Daycare:

The Pre-School is basically the fundamental stage that prepares children in their formative years to learn, and to understand the very basic principles of academic, social and moral life. Our Pre-School consists of the Crèche, Nursery and Kindergarten for children from ages two to five years. The Pre-School is headed by an experienced and a well-seasoned educationist who knows what it takes to understand the needs of children, and to provide the satisfactory remedy. She does this expertly as she understands their language and their body gestures. The medium of instructions for the children is a combination of English Language and Ghanaian Language. The Pre-School strictly follows the curriculum of the Ghana Education Service, and where necessary, other relevant additions are made to get the children well-grounded for their academic take-off.

Primary School:

The Primary School is the main feeding school for the Junior High School section of the School. For that matter, efforts are always made to fine tune and take the pupils through the mill in a special training fashion especially at the Upper Primary level which is the exit point to the JHS so that excellent results are guaranteed at the BECE.

Junior High School:

The primary unit of the school is the major feeding school for the Junior High School. Other students are annually admitted into the school from other schools, based on well-organized Entrance Exams at Form one and two levels. The subjects offered are: English Language, Ghanaian Language, French, Mathematics, Integrated Science, Building Design and Technology, ICT, Social Studies and Religious & Moral Education.

Pre-Modal School (Pre-SHS):

The Pre-modal School was introduced to serve as a springboard for the JHS leavers entering into various Senior High, Technical or Vocational Schools. The project is informal an its three months intensive preparation program while the students are waiting for their results. The focuses are only on Compulsory subjects.

Senior High Technical School:

Artic Senior High Technical School was established in January, 2010 to render our quota to the educational upliftment of the nation. The school was established to give hope to our successful graduates from our basic school begin with four (4) students and the school offered General Arts and Business with accounting option. The school was registered with the Registrar General’s Department with registration No. AR/O.M/SHS/P.011with Category C in ranking as at now and now the school stands with the population of Five hundred (500) students with all the second cycle programmes (General Arts, General Science, Agriculture Science, Visual Arts, Home Science, Business and Technical). Our academic programs are challenging — and it’s balanced with the arts, community service, and sports — so our days are very busy. We encourage students to think for themselves, and respect is a key value of our community. Classes are small, spacious and engaging. Students call teachers by their first-names and this contributes to an atmosphere of mutual respect. Students respects the opinion of others, speak their minds to form well-reasoned opinions. Everyone takes classes in English and the rest of the subjects as recommended by the Ghana Education Service.
